T5 HO/Tomato seedlings?

Posted by LaurieK123 7b (My Page) on

Hello, I am a newbie.

All I want to do is raise tomato seedlings to healthy, stocky, 6-8 week old plants.

I am trying to figure out if a T5/HO light; with four-4 ft, 6500k bulbs; would be enough to do that.

If so, then please advise how many seedlings would work under that set-up?

If not, then please advise what is wronge or what else I would need to do.

Any suggestions or personal experience is greatly appreciated.

Not sure on how many, 16-30, I dont know. I will say I raised cherry tomatoes from seed under a single 65k cfl about 26w I think. I was amazed at what that one bulb did.
So yea it will work and is a good idea to get a good start.

That is roughly 20K lumens. As long as you can keep the light concentrated and close to the seedlings, that should work fine for producing nice compact growth. You can probably grow as many seedlings as you can fit directly under the light fixture -- so however many you can get in a 4' by, say, ~18" space.
