I need a small, inexpensive growing light.

I just bought a couple of venus flytraps and I have read that they need a lot of light to keep them healthy. I found something called the "intelligent plant light" or something like that but its $30. I really don't want to spend that much on a light that I will just use for these 2 venus flytraps. Is there a lightbulb that I could put into a desk lamp or just a socket that I could mount somewhere that I could use to give the plant the light it needs?

RE: I need a small, inexpensive growing light.

Are you growing this on your desk at work or is it on a window ledge? Does it get any natural light at all?

For a tiny plant like that, just use a regular desk lamp with a standard 15W CFL (those that are equivalent to a 60W incandescent bulb) and run it for 12-16 hours a day with the bulb a few inches from the plant. From what I've seen of the "intellegent plant light", it's not any better.

I'm no expert, but from what I read, Venus flytraps need a mild winter sleep to grow healthy too, so the other option is to overwinter it in your fridge. You can find out more about that from the CP forums.
