Top view of the reflector. This unit had nice rubber gaskets to seal all the joints for potential moisture in the grow area. The reflector unit, bulb and electrical box does not weigh more then 2-3 lbs, which makes it easy to hang. I will install a simple bracket as a hanger.

i love ebay. i got 2 400watt mh's new for $180 myself. got a 1000 watt hps for $162!! if you search there you'll be amazed!!!

Now if you want to actually grow plants efficiently, get a different bulb. First, because used bulbs use more energy but put out less light. Second, the bulb you have (HPS) is obsolete (due to yellow-orange spectrum, lack of blue/red).

However you could use a PSMH on your same ballast. Pulse start metal halide comes in different spectrums.

Thanks for the input guys. Lermer I am also running a Metal Halide to create my blue part of the spectrum. The HPS bulb is new. I am not sure of the cost effectiveness of $50 to $100 bulbs to achieve a good light spectrum mix. I also get some nice 5-6 hours of sun through the south facing window of our grow area, also helping with the mix. I really want the red right now to induce some flowering in the tomato plants.

use what you have. right now i have a 400 watt hps and a 400 watt mh over my garden. it is growing great as well. i have a 1000 watt hps also but haven't been using it any. from what i tried last year i used a 150 watt hps that i have for growing. i replaced the bulb with a 150 watt hps security lightbulb i got at lowes. that really set the plants off and they grew like freaking crazy. that was the only light i used last year!!! don't let anybody tell you it won't work cause from what i've seen and done oh yes it will and it will do just fine.
