woud I gain anything by starting and growing the tomatos under MH lights over fluorescent,will be putting in greenhouse

Gene,

It's my understanding that MH lights are more suitable for significantly larger plants. Fluorescent lights are suitable for seedlings because they can be hung very close to the plants, within an inch or two. If you were planning to grow your tomato plants to the blooming stage or beyond, then the MH lights would probably be preferable.
