Peace lily problem

Posted by pslynch 9 (My Page) on

I have a peace lily sitting by my window (not drafty) that gets morning sun. My lily has been going down hill for awhile now and I can't figure out what is wrong.
Here are some of the problems:
-leaves are consistently droppy
-the soil isn't holding water well...it just flows right through.
-tips of leaves turning brown
-plant not thriving
I have fertilized it, moved it to different locations, watered it more, watered it less, etc.
Any suggestions?

I'm not sure, but maybe it needs dividing? Mine is doing the same thing and I think that is the problem.
I hope someone can help...Marylee

RE: Peace lily problem

You should go to the houseplant forum for more information. Usually, when the water is going straight through it means it is root bound. There is no viable soil in the pot. You'll need to repot it into a slightly larger pot. When you do this take a sharp knife and cut the roots to start new feeder roots. This would be a good time to divide your plant. You will be able to see the divisions when you get it out of the pot and the roots somewhat untangled. I hope this helps.
