That's a pretty one. Lilies can take full sun as well as sun and part shade. The sun, though, in any zone can fade the blooms on the more deeply colored lilies. An exposure with both sun and a period of light or passing shade helps with keeping color from fading.

As a general rule, the water requirement for lilies is minimal - the bulb itself contains everything the lily needs to go through its growth and bloom cycles. And leaving the leaves and stem intact after blooming until it yellows/brown out and gets woody replenishes the bulb for next season. Water well when first planted and growth starts, then water only during extreme or long dry spells. I always plant my lilies with other plants that have the same minimal water requirements - the bulbs don't get waterlogged and rot that way.

Thank you for all the helpful information. I think I've found the spot for it, on the east side of the patio where it will get sun until early afternoon and be sheltered by neighboring plants.

I am sorry to disappoint you, but hot sun is not the main problem for Asiatics in your zone. They need chill period every winter (vernalization) to bloom.

Jenn, don't be discouraged. I grow all lilies, asiatic, oriental, orienpet, etc. in zone 9 and 9b where there is very little if any winter chill, and they bloom their guts out every year.

Since I have clay soil, I dig a hole 3" deeper than necessary, fill with rough gravel, place bulb directly on top of gravel, cover and water. Then, no matter how rainy it is or how much water plants near them need, these always stay well drained and multiply and return every year.
