The number of bulblets produced varies with the clone's vigour and parentage. Some produce more, some less. As an example, Asiatics are generally much more prolific than Orientals at off-setting. Orienpets (& polyploids in general) can be particularly vigorous.

The second set of roots may indicate that there is another growing point present (ie it will produce two stems next year). Difficult to say precisely what's going on without a picture. I'd guess that it's another indication of a strong bulb in a good spot.

Kayman, I also have wondered about offsets and baby lilies. Thanks for the information. I always have lots of babies on the east side of the house where most of the asiatics are located. None to speak of with the orientals which are interplanted widely throughout the yard. I thought it was just location causing the difference. I'll have to check on the Orienpets!

Kayman - thanks also for the information. I was surprised by all the babies. I have grown other lilies before and never saw this many. The other orienpet lily was growing close to the same spot but it didn't produce as many so wondered why.

Were those roots where the bulblets were attached actually roots of the bulblets themselves? They can develop some pretty good roots!

You're lucky that plant made bulblets. I get frustrated by how few bulblets the Orientals (which I love) make, compared to the prolific bulblets of the Asiatics (which I'm not all that fond of).

Jeanne - some of the bulblets had roots and the big bulb had another set of roots, if I remember correctly. I didn't know they would put out roots like this. I guess I got lucky and got a pretty good deal for my money.
