First off, Lily of the Valley is not a true Lily. You might want to try and ask the Perennials forum for some advice as well.

Convallaria majalis (it's botanical name) has yet to emerge in our gardens here in the Pacific Northwest, but it should start coming up fairly soon since it sounds like you've done everything prescribed. Just make sure the soil is moist.

I'm not sure if Convallaria really thrives down in the south. I've always associated it growing in cool Northern climates. But as long as it has shade and moist organic soil, it should take off. New plantings often take a while to establish, but if you got fresh live plant material, they should poke their lil' heads up pretty soon!

I'm guessing you're somewhere in the general vicinity of Atlanta. Lily of the Valley will grow there, in deep shade. It's too early to see your green leaves yet. Plant some radish seed in a sunny spot to renew your faith in things coming up in a week or two and give the Lily of the Valley lots of time. They will come up, when it gets really warm.

I bought packaged lily-of-the-valley from Lowe's 4 weeks ago. There is a rubber band around the 5 small bulbs/roots. I didn't see it at first and almost planted them as a big clump since I have never grown it before. Now they are about 5 inches tall now (daily high ~ 50-60 F)

They do take awhile to get going - even "up" here where they do extremely well. The first year or so they might look like the dickens, so to speak! but when they "take", believe me, they'll be nice AND you will have plenty of them!
