Just received new batch of bulbs & a question

I placed an order with both B & D Lilies and Lilypad Lilies this past weekend, and received my order today (hooray!). I have about 13 new Oriental lily varieties to plant over the next day or two, and I won't list them all here. Suffice to say that I can't wait 'til July & August, because there won't be a better smelling backyard on my street!

What I am wondering about is the fact that a few of my bulbs seem to be growing already, in the packet they arrived in (with the wood shavings and peat). One actually has about a 1-2 inch stem. I know it's important to get them in the ground asap, but does the fact that a few have already started growing affect them negatively? This is only my second year planting liles (or any bulbs for that matter). Should I do any fertilizing when planting? I cannot remember if I did this with the bulbs I put in last year.

Thanks in advance-

Bethany
