And the worse thing is, at these prices its tempting to buy ALL the seeds you're interested in. Then, before you know it, half your house is taken over by seeds in various stages of germination and growth. It doesn't help that even the immediate epigeal seeds can take a LONG time to germinate. Or as my son remarked "So, you're turning our bathroom into a crazy lily science project again?"

I've turned the spare bedroom and the side yards into germination complexes, so I'm as bad as you are. Fortunately for my wallet, I didn't see anything I absolutely HAD to start this year, what with the 300-odd packets of perennials, bulbs, woody plants, annuals and vegetables (including lily seeds) I have to start.

I'm especially proud that I have even ONE Lilium parryi sprout from seed started in December 2004. I have hopes for more, but I'm thrilled with one. I have lots of Lilium formosanum babies from seed started at the same time--they germinated in Spring 2005 and are now ready for separation and potting-up.

The clincher was I really wanted Lilium monadelphum and that one was already sold out.

Hi Lisa,
Yeah, I wanted the monadelphum also. It's a beautiful lily but expensive and hard to find as a bulb. Fraser's Thimble Farms have them for $20.00 each.

I've got a tray of formosanum that is refusing to germinate. They're supposed to be immediate epigeal and I candled the seed before planting but they are just not interested in sprouting. I guess it's like they say: "patience is a virtue because its hard"!!!
