Lilies are amazing. Last spring our late frost took out a lot of lilies I had just planted & was so thrilled to have gotten. The foliage disappeared completely. I "thought" but wasn't sure that they had just gone dormant, but they are up again this year. A few are a little weak looking, but many look quite good. I've also planted some "dud" that I buy on clearance & more often than not, they show up eventually.

Same thing here. A year ago, last fall, I transplanted several oriental lily bulbs; although most grew and bloomed last summer, some of the bulbs that I transplanted to a couple of spots did not grow at all--last fall I did not transplant any bulbs because I feared that I would lose some like the previous fall.

This spring I was really surprised when lilies started to come up in the spots where I thought the bulbs had died--what a surprise!

I am glad to read that this has happened to other people and that my memory was not playing tricks on me.

I wonder if some bulbs are touchier than others? Mine were asiatics. IÂm just surprised they lived: itÂs not like they were prime healthy bulbs that had been treated right. These supposed "duds" were so shriveled up I almost tossed them.

They must store a lot of energy to live a year with no green leaves to make more.
