Should I plant deeper?

Hi,

I have a number of Lily bulbs that I bought this spring. They were already sprouting so I planted them in pots. Some are quite tall now and I would like to plant them out soon. They have been outside so are used to the weather. What I would like to know is this: I am not sure they are really deep enough in the pots. Should I plant them deeper in the garden- burying some of the stem that's now above the soil line in the pot or will this hurt them?

I am never sure how deep to put them in the pots either when they have sprouted. I am always worried that when the leaves on the sprouts are already opening up and I bury them in soil they won't reach the surface of the soil. Sometimes the sprouts are growing sideways along the bulb and that is a real problem to plant as well.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks!
