Yes, they will do it every year unless caged or otherwise protected. Deer will do it too, given half a chance - the growth tip of lilies must be irresistable to creatures. I have a few clumps of Asiatics that I cage with chicken wire - and I leave the wire cage in place all year around because rabbits etc. start in on the lilies as soon as they emerge in the spring. People resist using chicken wire to protect some of the more vulnerable things, but I find it just blends into the foliage. Cheaper (and less exasperating) in the long run than having lilies that never bloom due to being eaten.

Grrrrr! I'm going to join the rant about rabbits. I planted a lot of Asiatic lilies around our deck last year. Last year the rabbits didn't touch them. This year they are like candy. So far I've lost 6 that had buds on them. I did put dog hair around the lilies, but that only held them off until the first rain. I put up a fence over the weekend, just to find out the rabbit can fit between the metal of the fence and still get to the lilies.

I told the DH, it's open season on the rabbits. I'm thinking about planting something stinky (chives? Egyptian onions? Lavender?) to prevent the bunnies from attacking. The lilies I have near the Egyptian onions on the other side of the deck are untouched. Thanks for letting me complain.
