Hi Pachama,

Lilium Speciosum var. Rubrum is one of the species "parents" of the Oriental Hybrids. It is very easy to grow and reproduces well. Lilies aren't indoor plants so you can put it outside in its pot until fall and replant after the foliage dies back or carefully plant it in your garden now. (If the stalk is broken it won't grow a new one until next year.) It likes an acidic soil and part sun. It tolerates some shade but would prefer at least a few hours of direct sun. When you put your bulb in its permanent home, amend the soil with peat moss and plant it 6"-8" deep. Make sure you don't plant it in a damp spot (lilies like good drainage). Water it well when you first plant it but otherwise they don't require much attention.

I'm assuming it wasn't already in bloom unless it was forced by a nursery since Rubrum is one of the latest lilies to bloom.

Pachama, are you in Washington state? If so, you will need to water your lily during the summertime, so the soil does not get really dry. When you plant it, completely cover the potting mix with dirt at least an inch deep. Then mulch with bark dust or wood chips an inch deep. This will keep the soil cool.
