Moving lilies out of state

Posted by Barb1824 Zone 1 Alaska (My Page) on

I will be moving from Fairbanks, Alaska to southern Idaho the 1st week of August. I want to take my lilies with me. Should I dig them up now, before they sprout and some how store them or should I wait until August when they will be in bloom or just done blooming?
Help!
Thanks, Barb

Were it me I would wait until you are ready to move. I moved mine last fall after they had just finished blooming and they did very will. The experts might disagree but it worked great here in zone 4 for me.

Better to dig them now :-) Since lilies are so easily grown in containers, I'd pot them up. That way you will be able to enjoy any flowering and still have them easily transportable.
