lily stem hollow? stems breaking

does anyone know why my lily stems are breaking? the breaking stems are hollow inside... is this b/c of too much water? poor drainage or disease? i've had these lilies for 5 years they were divided 2 years ago & are not crowd.... they did have botrytis (sp) 2 yrs ago (treated) & were fine last year... any info will be greatly appreciated...thank you in advance...jeannie

I know your addres says long island, but are you anywhere near corn plants?? Corn borer can do this. You can take one of the affected stems, and carefully slice it lengthwise, or, look for an entrance/exit hole along the stem
