When should you divide lilies?

I have 5 lilies- 2 crimson pixie, 3 lollipop. Never thought they would so abundantly flourish. Don't like that they have spread out so much. Are crowding out nearby plants. They are about done blooming now. I have been deadheading the stalks with triple flowers and now have considerably shorter plants with some botrytis [spelling?] on the bottom. Do I divide now? Or wait till whole plant browns out, cut to ground, and then wait till spring to divide new sprouting plants, or just dig up the extra I see I don't want?

Never cut more than 1/3 of the green stem off, the leaves and stem are feeding the bulb to produce next years blooms. Wait until this fall when the entire stalk and leaves have yellowed. Then you can cut them down, dig the clump and carefully separate the bulbs and replant the larger bulbs. You can replant the others in another area or share/trade them with friends. When I deadhead lilies I cut off only the faded blooms at the base of the pedicel.
