Northern Illinois: Annual Lily show to be held July 6-7 at Chicag

Held at the Chicago Botanic Garden in Glencoe. Please consider attending or exhibiting. You do not have to be a member to exhibit a lily in competition, or to enter a floral display utilizing lilies.

"Oscar Night," is the theme for our 54th annual show which will be held on July 6-7 at the Chicago Botanic Garden. (Themes apply only to floral arrangements, NOT to entry of stems in the horticultural competition. )

FLORAL DISPLAY

As in the past, we will have four different classes of floral display. They are:

Casablanca, for the 1943 classic. Creative design using primarily white colors, and emphasizing simplicity in construction.

Out of Africa, for the 1985 romance. Creative design reminiscent of endless veldt, safaris, wild nature, and emphasizing the sweeping vistas and tawny colors of nature.

Gone With The Wind, the 1939 winner. Creative design reminiscent of Rhett and Scarlett's tempestuous romance, showing movement and emphasizing hot colors.

Titanic, the 1997 star. Creative design reminiscent of turn of the century romance, emphasizing soft colors with water showing.

HORTICULTURAL Entries

Those wishing to enter stems have a wide number of choices -- either individual stems, or collections of three. You DO NOT need to be an expert at raising lilies! In the past, some gardeners were slow to bring stems because they were unsure of their names, or how to classify them. Don't worry -- we have a very cheerful classification committee whose members will help members name their stems and place them properly.

Please check our Facebook page in the next few days, for further information. I will post an update on options there on Monday on how to enter .
