I can't find the photo my late husband took about 12 years ago - but we were crossing one of the mountains in Acadia NP. I can't remember which one, but the summit was broad, flat and windswept. As with most of the "desert mountains", the summit was very rocky, and bare of trees, but in shallow depressions there was enough soil to support wildflowers. There was a dark red flower on an upright stem, with strappy leaves, about 18" - 24" high. The lily looked like a miniature day lily. There were literally dozens of them blooming in several wild "beds".

Any ideas on what it is/was?
