Which way to plant sideways lilies?

I recived some lilies and out of 12, 3 of them were sprouting pointing the wrong way, im just wondering how should i plant them, with the sprouts pointing to the side or turn the bulb on its side and plant it so the sprout is facing up? Here are some pictures:

Should i plant them this way:

Or this way:

#2 {{gwi:1035150}}

Also should i tuck the roots to the side as best as i can or just set them in the hole as the roots hang?

Hi,

I would split the difference and plant them with the bulbs tilted slightly, definitely not on their side. The stems will find their way "up" again, might twist a little at the bottom, but they will eventually grow fine and next year it won't be an issue at all.

I had a couple bulbs this year that must have been stored completely upside down and the sprouts were coming out the bottom right near the roots. Those really made me scratch my head, but I decided to plant the bulbs normal. Eventually the stems turned right around because they all came up fine out of the ground :)
