Yep, shoot him... He also greatly reduced the chance of next year blooming. Lilies need their top growth to feed the bulb for the future blooms.

The good thing - 'Stargazer' is the most common and cheap Oriental. It is widely available at all big box stores every fall.

moth balls will keep the deer away....used them this spring for my Austin roses and they worked like a charm...they do stink a little though

Oh so sorry to hear about your Stargazer. Just stick in a vase and enjoy the lovely fragrance inside. As previously mentioned it probably won't bloon next year, at it will requite an entire season of growth ,to nourish the following years blooms. Stargazer are so appreaciated that they are everywhere and not expensive. Just replace them with some potted ones in bloom.
Fortunately I have no critters to eat mine, and they are just opening have about 7 blooms today.
