Mutant Oriental lily

Check this one out. A good friend of mine told me that it was a mutant lily. It was crazy when it was growing(before it formed flower heads) The lily was flat, just like an oar or paddle. Then 60 or so flower heads came out. Well here is a photo of it. Can anyone explain how this flowered like this? I have grown lilies for years and never seen anything like this.

You have a trumpet hybrid (most likely 'Pink Perfection' Strain).

This is a condition called fasciation. It's still unclear as to how/why this occurs, but fasciated stems will produce normal stems the following year.
