Individual lily blooms only last 5-7 days once the bud opens. Since your plants were purchased already in bloom, this is normal. If there are more buds yet to open expect each of the blooms to last the 5-7 days before fading and dropping off.

Each lily bulb will produce one stalk, so you have two bulbs for each plant you purchased - or six bulbs total as the case may be.

Once flowering is finished, leave the stems and leaves intact; the leaves will eventually turn yellow and the stem brown and woody. This natural process is feeding the bulbs for next season's growth and bloom.

Lilies look good in clumps and maybe you really don't want to dig them up and separate them until the clump gets too large. Don't know where in Zone 4 you are, but in my Zone 4, I could dig them up Sept/Oct and separate the bulbs - they come apart with a gentle twist of the wrist - and I would replant them immediately.

If you decide not to separate them so soon, wait till the plants you have look ratty and dead in the fall and cut them down - leaving a few inches of stub above the soil line - this is just so you know where they are.

Thank you so much ... i didnt realize that they only flower once a year on last for so short a time but they are amazing flowers when they are blooming.

i will wait a few years before i separate them.

when you say cut them down i cut the main stem right not just prune the leaves off?

Right, the stems/stalks and any dead-ish leaves attached to them. As I say, I usually leave a stub a couple of inches high above the soil line so I know where they are and don't step on them or plant over them in the spring. The leftover stubs won't hinder the new sprouts next season.
