lilies for warm climates (SE U.S.)?

A friend of mine in SC (zone 8) claims to find lilies difficult in her climate, especially the Orientals. Are there cultivars or species that thrive better in that climate? Are there special techniques for growing lilies in the South? & finally, can you recommend reading material on this subject? I checked McRae and two other books on lilies and found very little. Thanks.

What are your temperature highs and lows??

The highs in the summer are around 100, the lows in the winter rarely below 15 degrees F. Thanks.
