| I have a large perennial bed where I have many large Lilies growing. Over the past few weeks I noticed a strange white bug, which at first I thought were mealy bugs. When I would touch the white, it would hop off the plant. I was convinced these were not mealies.
I also summer my Orchids outside near this bed and found the same bug on many of them. Went away for a week and now notice many Lilie buds have blasted and my Orchids are covered with a white-like substance. I'm not sure how to treat this. I'm not sure if this is a mealy bug problem. I'm certain that these bugs are the reason for the Lilie buds dying. Any suggestions? Thanks, Jane |

| White fly maybe? I have the same thing, but I can't spray (butterfly garden) and they don't seem to be causing any problems. I just blast them with the hose. I don't think that either mealy bugs or white fly would cause this. My daylily repeat bloomer had the same problem this year. We had very strange weather, though, and I thought it was from the temps fluctuating so much. Susan |
