 o
question about stargazer

I bought this home last year. It had some nice gardens. It had some stargazers. Which I quickly became a fan. So last year I bought some more to plant in another spot last fall. They came up had a nice fragrance, but they didn't look excatly like the ones that were already here. These ones didn't all point to the sky. Some pointed out sideways. And the flowers were not as big. The old stargazers had nice large flowers and everyone was pointed straight up. What do think, weak stock? Thanks filix.

I think there is a major confusion what the original Stargazer was like. I think nobody really knows except the creator of it. There are some imposters on the market.

RE: question about stargazer

There are many Oriental lilies that look like 'Stargazer' most people call any that are hot pink/magenta and white 'Stargazer'

L. speciosum rubrum is the same color as 'Stargazer' but the blooms are smaller and point down and sideways. In my garden it is a far better grower/performer.
'Black Beauty' is a hybrd from it that is absolutely outstanding.

RE: question about stargazer

I noticed the newer ones aren't as pretty as mine from a few vendors and the one I got them from originally.

But mine I didn't divide after 4 years, and this year I only got one bloom at the top, no multiple, gorgeous blooms as in other years. I also sprinkled Bloom Booster around late last spring which did seem to make the leaves look healthier.

So I was going to dig up as many bulbs and bulblets as I can of both Stargazer and the nearby Aubade (lost a few of the latter). It's rained so I can dig there again much more easily plus they are starting to turn brown (that's normal for this time of year in my zone).

What should I do with the bulbs? Are they spent? I'd buy more and plant them somewhere else but not if I don't get a good match to what I had. So is there's any way to rejuvenate mine or should I just give up on them?
