How deep to plant Lycoris radiata?

I received about 30 of these bulbs from a very generous trader here on GW. I got them in the ground, but am worried that I didn't plant them at the right depth. They were good sized bulbs, many 4" wide - with a stalk/stem a couple of inches long. I planted them all about 4"-5" deep and have not seen any growth poke through the ground yet. They've probably been in the ground for a month now. Today I was too curious and carefully dug a couple up. They looked fine, about the same as when I planted them, but no growth shooting up from the top at all. I replanted these two, but left the stem just barely sticking out of the soil this time.

I've read these bloom in Aug/Sept., could it be that they're just dormant right now?

Any help would be appreciated, maybe I'm just being too impatient!

Thanks.

Jenny
