The main issue is how will you keep them from drying out or rotting.

I believe lily suppliers who ship lilies in spring keep the bulbs refrigerated. They probably sprinkle the bulbs once in a while to keep them from dehydration.

I dug up a small box full of lily bulbs a Saturday ago. Since the temp was in the 80s, I kept them in the frige for the weekend and mailed them out on Monday. The lilies seemed to like it, because they were fresh looking when I took them out of the frige. I have never kept anything in the frige longer than a few days, though.

Do you have a cooler to keep the lilies? You may be able to get by by keeping them in a cooler in an unheated garage closer to the house.

Try the Canadian Prairie Lily Society....Margaret Driver newsletter 84:3-4 She talks about overwintering lily bulbs in an insulated container...looks interesting. I havn't tried it myself...but will possibly in the future as we are going to downsize ...martagons are too pricey to risk an off season relocation
