Source for martagons and other shade lilies?

| Anyone have a favorite source? I checked the Lily Garden and was surprised they didn’t have any.
For that matter, anyone have a favorite variety to recommend? The location is deciduous shade, and I am filling it with "woodland" plants like ferns, true geraniums, astilbe, and hostas. Early species tulips have perennialized well there, if that is useful to know. It is "rooty" from the trees so tends to be dry-ish.
Ideally I’d like something that would "glow" in the shade. It’s far from the house so a color that would project a bit would be great. I’d love any shade of red, like a Turk’s Cap lily: maybe yellow too.
Thanks!

Buggy Crazy is the best source. She still has some lilies left. I ordered from the Lily Garden too, but right now they must be of Martagon because I don't see it listed on the list. |

| For what it's worth... I ordered some bulbs from Buggycrazy a couple of years ago. Most of them were fine, but I did receive one bulb that was virused. When it bloomed there was definite mottling and streaking. I e-mailed her with a pic of the bloom and never received a reply. As it was a single bulb, I didn't pursue it any further, just dug it and disposed of it. |

| Have you checked any of the Canadian companies? Some of them ship to the US and the cost of the phyto cert. is not too bad, Try Lilynook, Estate Perennials, Parkland Perennials and S-W Gardens.Estate P. took over the huge amount of bulbs from the hybridization work of Eugene Fox and Lilynook has the ones from Ed Robinson.I have bought from all four and they all ship good sizes bulbs.I am up to 16 kinds of martagons now and have a wish list for the future.I also have the Fox book on martagons the martagon cd and a bag full of seeds in the fridge halfway through the germination process.Yes, I am hooked!!!! |

| the lily nook is very good. I got some very good quality martagon hybrids from them 2 years ago. how deep is the soil where you intend to plant the lilies? if you want something that glows nicely, I would suggest lilium regale. If you are interested, I can send you my plant list, as I offer quite alot of lilies in my catalogue. I also have 'manitoba fox' available, and maybe some martagon albums. Pontus |

| Thanks for the tips. I will check these out. Seeds sound intriging. I'm not sure I have that kind of patience, though. I think I need to start with something really easy, as I'm not sure if I have the right conditions. Is there one considered especially tolerant of my coditions? Dry, rooty dappled shade? I do water (installed a system for that bed) but a lot gets sucked right away. |
