I'd like more info on shade requirements for this kind of lily: can anyone help? I have a dappled dry shade area where these would look great: just don't know if they can take those conditions.

Hi All,
What do you mean by "Turk's Cap"? The phrase is used to designate a flower form (down facing strongly recurved) and it's also the common name for the Martagon lily, (and used also for it's hybrids).

The lily in that link, L. pumilum, is a species lily native to Siberia. Its not a Martagon but it does have a turks cap shaped flower. I planted it last year but it struggled in my heavy clay and barely came up - much less flower. I've replanted it and hope it does better this coming season.

There are quite a few other species lilies with "Turk's cap" flowers that are not related to L. Martagon such as Cernuum and Citronella (both being sold by John Scheepers/Van Engelen). A number of native US lilies also have that shape, some of them are more tolerant of dappled shade (they're woodland plants) though I don't know about dry shade.

I've ordered L. Pardalinum for my dappled shade - so I won't be able to tell you whether it works or not til next year. :)
