What was your favorite new one this year?

New to your garden, not new introduction. What did you plant that surprised you?
What was more beautiful than you expected?

I planted a lot in the fall of 08 and then a few on-sale bargains from Menards in the spring. Most did not bloom full height but I could still tell which ones were going to be great later.

Red Velvet : looked just how I hoped it would. Incredible color. Can’t wait until it gets bigger.

Biggest surprise: Rosselini orienpet . One of the spring bargains, it bloomed at only a foot tall, but with a full sized flower. But oh, what a luscious color. Wonderful form. I’ll admit I had bought it just because of the name.

Second biggest surprise: Cappuccino Tango asiatic. I didn’t think I’d like a spreckled one, and I did. Bought it just to get a 3-fer at my society sale.

I planted most of my lilies in spring this year. I have ordered from different lily vendors on line and I have also bought on sale bulbs at Walmart, Home Depot and Menards. I did not get any blooms from the Menard's lilies, whereas the HD ones gave me some blooms but they did not grow full height also. The Stargazers I bought at Walmart performed well for me.

Out of all these lilies that I have planted, the ones that surprised me the most are Elodie from VE and Pink Heaven from HD which I bought in early spring. The pictures of Elodie doesn't do justice on how this gorgeous lily looked like. LO Pink Heaven has big blooms, intoxicating fragrance and amazing color.

linnea 56, you are going to really love Red Velvet.Out of my 50 or so varieties Red Velvet is in my top 10.
Pavia was my favorite newbie this year, a beautiful clear yellow LA. It stood up to sustained winds of 45mph and gusts up to 60mph.

I should reconsider and order 'Elodie' next spring, impressive bloom!

More daylilies in my garden but I've been trying a new Asiatic/Oriental/Hybrid or two every year and last season's star was "Muscadet". I potted it in case the initial location wasn't satisfactory (just a blast of mid-day sun). It did just fantastic! Purchased at about 12" in height and doubled in my pot, the huge 8+" blooms were beautiful and fragrant. A real eye catcher at the front porch as I pulled in the drive. Ditched the pot and planted in the same location, hope it does as well or better this year.(the yellowing is pollen stain)

Muscadet was new to me last year and I agree, they're real eye catcher.
