Lilium japonicum f. albomarginatum

Hi All, I have been putting together an order for a bunch of Arisaema from Japan and was searching around their site and noticed the wonderful lily in the subject. I'm wondering if anyone has grown this guy from the island of Shikoku and can tell me how tough/easy it is. I'm not a lily person in general, but the frosted leaf edges in white had me thinking I might just need these if I can get a few of my friends to go in with me. Of course, if anyone knows a source in the U.S. for a couple of these that is cheap I'd be interested in hearing that as well!! By the way, I would not consider Asiatica to be cheap if that helps refine the search!! If anyone has any info I would love to hear :o) Dan

Hi Dan,

I tried this species a few years ago, and its not one of the easiest to grow. It requires perfect drainage in a slightly acidic soil, and is very sensitive to rotting, but also to drying out, so you have to get it "just right".

it enjoys half shady, woodland type conditions. In winter it likes being covered in snow, which keeps it on the "dry side"

they usually cost a fortune when you do find them. My bulb (which i have now lost) cost me £ 20 at the time, which is about $40!
