Is November too late to plant my lilies?

| I ordered lily bulbs, daylillies and peonies and wasn't able to get them in the ground right away. It has been a relatively warm autumn here in CT. Is it too late to put them in and still have sufficient time for roots to grow? If not, how should I handle wintering over? |

| Plant them now. These are tough plants. They'll do fine. What do you have to lose? What would you do with them if you don't plant them now? One time I received lily bulbs in December from a trader. I was rather upset that she shipped them so late, but I planted them anyway even though the ground was covered with snow. They bloomed beautifully the following summer. |

Most lily growers figure it's always better to have the bulbs in the ground rather than anywhere else, no matter how late that happens to be. If they're in your unheated garage, they will freeze. (Well, they're happier frozen in the ground with the earth around them, than frozen in a box.) If they're in the house, they will be too warm, just about any place you put them. |
