New to Bamboo

Hi. I am new to Bamboo. I don't have many house plants.

But these are very pretty. I just got 2 bamboos & would like to know about caring for them. Both came unnamed. One was from Petco & the other I got from a dollar store.

The one from the dollar store is very long. Can I safely cut it? Right now I have them in a small vase with Fish Tank rocks & water. Is this OK? How does one get this type to be curvey? Is there a type of fertilizer that I can use?

This is a nice article about how to care for your bamboo.

It answers most of your questions. You can cut the bamboo tips if you want them to start several branches from the cut and grow up from there. The piece you cut off can be tipped in a rooting hormone and planted as well.

A lot of people do grow these in water. I prefer soil, since I find watering easier than chaning the water.

These plants can be trained to be curly by turning them and letting them grow towards the light source. When it has formed a good curve, you turn it a little more.

The write-up at the link says to add about 1/10th strenght aquarium plant food every couple of months. Since I have my plant in soil, I add a light dose of time-release plant food every three months.
