Just three? If you're using this to select plants for your garden, it would help if you narrow it down as to size. But putting that aside for now...

1. A.s. 'Aureum'
2. A.p. 'Yezo nishiki'
3. A.p. 'Mirte'

you cannot ever select plants from other people comments as everyone has different tastes with maples . someone might yeso nishiki but this variety may be someones least favourite . size is not an issue here. if you like it and have space dont worry about size. its nice to know of what people go for as their top three . Anyway beside that there has been a similar thread here asking what the famous 5 maples is. i have narrowed down to three . So dont be afraid to name your top three .

Seiryu

1) Shishigashira
2) Ukigumo
3) Orangeola

Looks like you should have asked for the top three Japanese maples, as that is all anyone is talking about.
