Baby Red Dragon Acer's - Air Pot size

Hi,
This is my first post here. I acquired theses Baby Red Dragon Acer's over the winter. They are to eventually go into a raised bed. There purpose will be for propagation (seedlings, cuttings or layering) when there ready. Now my question.

I have read the 1-2 year old maples should not go into the ground. I'm okay with that as I still need to determine the best spot for there raised bed. I will watch the sun on my property through the summer to determine this. In the mean time, I'd like to put them in Air Pots: http://www.calgrowers.com/index.php?app=ecom&ns=catshow&ref=airpots but I am not sure of the size. I was going to put them in 2 gallon pots, but then read that if you put them in too large a pot. They could struggle. This summer they will go on a stand in front of my house where they will get morning sun and afternoon shade and over winter in my garage. Where they are now. Any and all advice is welcome.

Thank you,
Joe
