Hey Forest, Not sure what you mean by tall ? But the first one to come to mind for me that may interest you would be ap 'Seiryu'. There is alot of info online about this cultivar so search is easy.

I can't recommend any specific variety as I grow most of my Maples from seed, but I am building a 'Temple'. I can't wait to start landscaping around it. Maples WILL be included, of course. Mostly conifers though. I'm going to bring in soil from other areas on my property as the soil here is thin and poor.
I've been pretty busy so the going has been slow, and will probably continue to be slow. I've suffered a lot of damage due to an ice storm a few weeks ago. Thirty year old upright Japanese Maples with nice canopies took the most damage.

'Green Star' and 'Killarney' come to mind.

How about 'Ki Hachijo'? Don't know about the twisted branches, but its striated bark is a nice effect.
