Potting mix for japanese maples

Hello,

I am planning to plant in large pots two Japanese Maples.I know that maples need well drained and slightly acidic soils.I would like to know which commercial brands of potting mixes satisfying those conditions are available in Northern California,Silicon Valley area.Please give brand names.Thanks.JM

Despite comments from others to the contrary, I'd still highly recommend Gardner & Bloome Acid Planting Mix. As stated, I've grown containerized Japanese maples in it for years with excellent results. It meets all the requirements for great JM performance.

I use (or some minor variation of) a mix made from:
1 part pine or fir bark (small uncomposted chunks)
1 part Turface (calcined clay granules)
1 part crushed granite
gypsum (for Ca)
micronutrient granules (Micromax)
for all my (250 or so) containerized trees

It's extremely durable (structurally), holds air VERY well, will last long beyond the time you should have repotted.
