'Seiryu' is one cultivar that is often recommended for hot climates and very sunny conditions but full day sun in your area may be a bit too harsh. Pacific Coast Maples specializes in heat/sun tolerant Japanese maples and offers these suggestions for successful growing under these conditions.

I live just about 1 hour north of metro maples and it is an amazing place. I get the feeling that it would be touch and go with the Seiryu in the place I want to put it. Not too sure much of any would work except maybe the Shantungs.

Take if from a Southerner - JMs are going to suffer in the full sun down here. They do best with afternoon shade. And don't even think about planting one in anything other than a raised bed full of good top soil. The clay/hardpan is certain death.

There are several large (12 ft) Seiryu at DFW Airport, but they are in a protected and partially shaded area.
