Are there any other maples with red winter barks exactly like the coral bark, Sango Kagu, maple? I went to Home depot the other day. They had good size coral barks for $100. An aisle, or two, over were maples, same size or taller, with the exact bark coloring labeled only as "Acer Upright" for $29. The only difference I could see is that they weren't shaped as nicely.

The Home Despot rather often has the same kinds of trees with contradictory labeling. Accurate labeling, keeping plants watered...who cares? Friendly Neighborhood Vendor is not what Big Box stores are about, despite all of their lying ads.

A good sized coral bark for $100 sounds like a good deal to me.

tom, you may have a seedling(not as nice) & they can not sale it under the same name. The seeds may have came from the tree they get the graft bubs from & are free. If I found them I would have bought at least one. When my maple start to seed, I am going to try to get cheat copies for the back of my garden. Just as back ground plants.
