We have them, but for not long enough to tell you anything. However if you look around for pictures of Paperbarks you might be able to get a clue in those pictures. I'm not certain, but I think I recall seeing grass under many of them, which to me would be a hint that they are not so aggressive. Plus the fact they are frequently kept in boxes implies the same. Not allot, but it's all I got on the subject. Let us know if you find out anything.

How about the other way around?

I have an established shade perennial bed (hosta, ferns, pulmonarias, tierellas, etc.) and I need to add a tree. I had a dogwood in the bed that had to be cut down from storm damage. I would like to transplant an adolescent Acer griseum that I have in another bed. Can I squeeze it in amongst the perennials? I am not planning on digging out the dogwood stump. I will place the Acer a few feet over from where the dogwood was.

If there is honey fungus in your area it would be better to dig the stump out first.

Not that I know of...just read about it. yuck. I also lost several oaks, pines and birches along the edge of the woods. Not going to be de-stumping all of those for sure. Stumps are a fact of life here in the forest. At least the lumber was taken away for firewood.

But now I have something new to worry about. yea! :-)

You can at least watch for it and root out the rhizomorphs, should any appear in or near your plantings.
