You can find various lists of sun tolerant JM's online. The one attached is from a nursery in California, so should include cultivars that will survive the sun of Connecticut without issue. Understand that JM's are not very drought tolerant so will need frequent deep watering during the summer months, especially the first couple of years. Also, the quality of the soil at the planting site will have a bearing on how easily the maple can withstand full sun and heat. Ideally, at least a small amount of afternoon shade is desirable, more so when the tree is young and not yet well-established.

Though perhaps not technically considered a 'Japanese maple' let me recommend please, Acer buergerianum - if it's to be in a container - particularly 'Miyasama yatsubusa', 'Kyuden', ...... or even the species street tree is easy to keep compact & responds very well to pruning. If the tree is to be in the landscape (or container), A. ginnala (amur maple) is VERY hardy and nearly care free, other than regular root work if it's in a container.
