I've recently acquired a Japanese Maple ('Katsura') from my local nursery. A few questions from a novice gardener:
1) I intend to keep this JM containerized, will that be okay?
2) As noted, I live in the SF Bay Area (specifically in Berkeley). Will this JM tolerate an unshaded southern deck?
3) He looks really root bound (see second photo). I've read that I shouldn't repot until fall when the JM is no longer in leaf. Will it survive alright until then? Any advice? Many of the postings I read dealt specifically with timing of pruning vis-a-vis freezes, which I obviously don't have to deal with given my location. Right now I've just left it in the nursery container and nested it in a similarly sized pot for stability.
Thanks so much for your help. I'd like to keep this JM for years to come and want to start it off right.
