Japanese maple questions

hey all,

new to the forums so apologies if this has been covered earlier. I want to plant a japanese maple in the front yard of my rowhouse in brooklyn, ny. A few questions:

the area is roughly 10x15 feet, bounded by stone stoops on both sides. Will japanese maple roots damage stoops/foundations/ sidewalks?

what is the best j maple variant for south-facing, very bright sun? (the spot will get a lot of ambient heat from the building and the concrete around it).

Essentially, what's the hardiest, most pollution and heat-tolerant, non-foundation damaging kind of japanese maple? Or should I try something else?

Thanks!
