Reball, Your Sango should respond nicely to pruning. Any other suggestions is difficult without a photo. Good Luck

Thank you - I guess I was worried that I would somehow harm by pruning.

As a matter of fact, you generally want to prune these and keep them pushing new growth where you can see it, as it is the new growth that is the reddest.

thanks. the problem is that there is one tall center limb going straight up, with two side branches (of almost the same length at the bottom) going out, so I am thinking of cutting the center limb by half and the side limbs by half. Would that work? (I can't seem to post a picture).

I would say with that 10'tall sango you should be fine.First i would clean cut any places where branches snapped,but instead of leaving short stubs i would carry those back to the trunk. After a 'clean up' then i would prune to my desired shape. good luck!
