Troubling Norway -- but it's huge!

Hi,

When we moved in to the property, I much admired a lovely maple in the NW corner of the lot. The tree has grown quite large and now I am having all of the usual trouble with it -- can't grow anything under it, it's shading out other things, etc. etc. I'd like to remove it, but really, it is *big* and it will leave such a bare spot that will take years and years to fill in.

What is the life span of a Norway? Are they susceptible to anything in particular?

Shadey
