Hi all!
It's spring & what does that mean!?
Time to put more of my JMs in the ground, vs. another year in pots. Three, to be exact. Three who have proved to take full sun & drought without crapping out!
I also finished repotting (with very mild root pruning) 18 that will spend another year in a pot.
That said.
I have discovered my raised bed, where I already have 3 JMs has very compacted soil. I'm not certain if that's the right word. It's very dense, very rich black soil. I can't see where air is getting in, other than the fact that water doesn't pool on top.
Is there a way to aerate the soil without murdering very happy JMs? I picture something like making a long narrow hole, maybe with a metal stake or something, and maybe filling those holes with perlite or something?
I saw last year how my Crispa doubled in size when I repotted it into one of the soil mixtures recommended here.
Any suggestions for me, short of transplanting established trees?
Thank you!
(a little eye candy)
