What's the best way to handle cuttings?

Hello , I recieved a queen japaenese maple cutting from a plant swap and was gave directions on how to root them. I now have a couple little roots what do I do now? Do I put them in pots till they get bigger and should they be kept in the shade? HELP.

Yes, pot them into clay pots with well drained soil. Continue to treat them as "cuttings", do not let them dry put!

Keep them in the shade until it starts to cool off in the fall. When it has cooled off plant them in the ground if that is the intent. Preferable after they have defoliated.

Realize that the commercially available plants are grafted onto standard Acer palmatum rootstock and that your cuttings are going to grow much slower that one that have been grafted.
