Is my acer palmatum dissectum "Crimson Queen" dying?

I have a crimson queen Japanese threadleaf maple that was planted last year. The tree had two of its six or so main branches split down the middle due to snow weight and the trunk is showing vertical cracking while the bark has detached from the 'meat'. The buds have all turned brown and dry while they have curled open and are showing little to no maroon coloring at all.
