Google nursery in you area and you will come up with a list for you to call around and ask for price rather than driving around wasting gas/time/money.

I spent 125 dollars for 5 ft size in 15g container last fall from local independent nursery.

Mail order will save you money. Forest Farm is a decent source for JMs. Their tubes are smaller fellas. Last spring I planted foot tall grafts of Higasayama and Purple Ghost from them. Both lived, even grew a little.

I can't help but notice they have this tree listed as zone6. Do you have a pretty sheltered area for it?

The -10 temp is accurate for my zone. Other sources list it as zone 5. In any case I'm planting it on a south facing slope, on the south side of some very large oak trees. It will get more than 6 hours of sun. Thanks for the heads up about the zone recommendation. I may have to baby it until it is well established.

Not sure if you are in Massachusetts like your screen name seems to indicate. If so and you are in the southcoast area, go to Redwood Nursery in Swansea, MA. They have nice 5-6 footers. Got mine from them last fall for half price @ $55.00

I have a Seiryu I planted in 2009 about 1-2ft size that is around 4 1/2 feet this spring. Mine is in full sun until around 4 pm when it gets late afternoon shade. It has grown very well and I think it has more trouble with the cold then the midwest heat in it's open location. Seems pretty sun tolerant, though I know it would like some shade sooner in the day.
